GESI in Clean Cooking
Policy Dialogue

Our former Chairperson and founding member, Hiwote Teshome contributed to the panel discussion on the barriers faced by women entrepreneurs, youth, and marginalized groups in the clean cooking sector — and how alliances can work collectively to address them.
ECCA has long been an active partner in shaping Ethiopia’s clean cooking strategy, roadmap, and policy documents through technical working groups. We ensure that Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) is not just an add-on, but a central part of all clean cooking interventions.

Key challenges identified include:
Limited market access and financing for women and youth-led enterprises
Gaps in technical and business skills
Low representation in decision-making platforms
To address these, ECCA is:
✅ Advocating with MoWE for supportive mechanisms such as market platforms and capacity-building programs
✅ Generating evidence through field assessments, case studies, and gender-disaggregated data
✅ Developing technical briefs and policy recommendations to strengthen implementation
Our Gender Policy guides all advocacy, capacity building, awareness creation, and networking activities. On the ground, we are promoting inclusive technology design and ensuring equitable access to information for women, youth, persons with disabilities, and the elderly.

To accelerate these efforts, ECCA calls for stronger partnerships, dedicated funding, and technical support.
